Introduction
In the wake of the Grenfell disaster in June 2017, the Ministry for Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is taking comprehensive action to shake up and reform the building of high-rise residential blocks, and ensure buildings are made safer, particularly for residents.
In July 2020, the draft Building Safety Regulator Bill was published, which requires HSE to establish a new buildings safety regulator, to implement the recommendations made in the 'Building a Safer Future' report by Dame Judith Hackitt (2018). In February 2021 the HSE announced its plans.
The new regulator will oversee all aspects of high-rise buildings, namely design, construction, and occupation. Resident safety and security will be a top priority. As an independent body, the regulator will be empowered widely and able to give expert advice to all stakeholders of the industry, as well as to residents.
This 2-hour virtual classroom seminar outlines the key points about the new Building Safety Regulator, its powers and responsibilities. It is suitable for those who:
- Work in, or advise on, construction projects whether as client, designer, surveyor, adviser, or contractor (any tier)
- Are responsible for risk management, finance/ funding, compliance or insurance
- Are in-house lawyers to organisations in the residential building sector
- Are involved in reporting/ liaison with HSE
- Are part of the supply chain for residential buildings
